Everyone knows you can’t judge a book by its cover, and you can’t judge a plant by its appearance, either. You may think of dandelion as a pesky weed, but this humble little flower has impressive herbal powers. Let’s take a moment to peek inside the tea bag and get to the root of what makes our Roasted Dandelion Root tea so special.
Named from the French dent-de-lion, or “lion’s tooth,” for its jagged-edged leaves, the dandelion has supported people’s digestion throughout the Northern Hemisphere for centuries.* Dandelions came to the New World with early European settlers, who often pulled grasses out of their yards and replaced them with more “useful” herbs like dandelion.
Every part of the dandelion has some kind of wellness benefit, but the root is renowned for its ability to help support the liver and digestive system. The root’s bitterness helps to stimulate the taste buds, setting off production of digestive juices from saliva to bile. This ignites the body’s natural detoxification processes and helps the liver to flush wastes.*
Some of our favorite organic dandelion root comes from the meadows of Poland, where our collectors harvest it sustainably in the wild during the spring or early fall. To do so, collectors dig up the dandelion by the roots with a mattock, separate them from the leaves, stems, and flowers, then wash, dry, and roast the roots whole, before cutting them for our teas.
The warmly roasted flavor of our Roasted Dandelion Root tea reminds us of a gentle black coffee, which makes it particularly ideal first thing in the morning—and its mild bitterness makes it ideal for jump-starting your digestion for the day. Of course, unlike coffee, our Roasted Dandelion Root tea is naturally caffeine-free, which makes it a perfect companion for a cozy evening reading books by the fire, as well.
Just as a common little backyard flower can pack an impressive wallop of herbal power, a cup of tea can provide far more than just good taste and warmth. One of our best-selling teas, Roasted Dandelion Root combines delicious roasted flavor with energizing digestive benefits. Now that you’ve had a peek inside, who’s ready for a cup?
